Leadership - The Leadership provides leadership and management for the FLINT Initiative. The Leadership leads the planning and development of the fields in the information science and technology, Internet, and Web-Information Search. The Leadership co-chairs the activities of the Strategic Scientific Committee and manages the activities of the Executive Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation. The Leadership also manages economic assessment, electronic research administration, communications, investment portfolio, and all other elements of program function and operations.

 

Strategic Advisor to the Leadership: to provide high level advise to the FLINT leadership on the strategic matters and to help to define long term Initiative’s vision.  FLINT leadership will be in routine contact with Strategic advisors. 

 

 

Executive Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation: The Committee is compromise of leaders from business, finance and the corporate. The Committee is responsible for promoting the FLINT’s initiative and to create new network and business opportunities. The Committee includes FLINT strategic members’ representative and FLINT executives and has the following five central charges:

 

1.       to provide long-range perspective on research and development opportunities

2.       to advise on how FLINT  might best address those opportunities in a manner that advances the mission of the FLINT

3.       to advise and assist FLINT Associate members within their fields of expertise, on request;

4.       to advise the FLINT Director on the development, performance, and impact of the FLINT for Science and Innovation;

5.       to identify priority research fields for consideration in unique research initiatives or that may warrant development of entirely new system wide initiatives within the FLINT.

 

FLINT is the largest single basic research and development initiative. It is a world-leading program in basic and applied research in computational intelligence and intelligent/information systems. It conducts research and development for national and international government agencies, commercial businesses, foundations, and other organizations. FLINT has developed close-working relationships with strategic partners and international communities to bring its innovations to the marketplace through the transfer and sharing of its knowledge. The Committee meets twice a year. All FLINT Strategic Industrial/government/Organization partners will be given a seat in this committee.

 

Strategic Scientific Committee: The Strategic Scientific Committee is composed of the research pioneers and top scientist and engineers of the fields of computational intelligence and the following important applications area, information science and technology, Internet, and Web-Information Search.  The Committee has the following four central charges:

1.       To provide scientific oversight and guidance on planning recommendations and on matters related to FLINT missions

2.       To help identify research fields for consideration as candidates for FLINT research and development, and

3.       To serve as channels of communication to FLINT researchers on the opportunities and goals of the corporate sponsors.

4.       To ensure rigorous scientific peer review of FLINT’s research

 

One of each institution's strategic scientific committee members will be designated to represent the local institution when that Executive Committee member is unable to attend an Executive Committee meeting Strategic Scientific Committee members will meet once a year at Berkeley and participate in two or three proposal review sessions each year and serve four year terms. The FLINT Director appoints Scientific Committee members, in consultation with FLINT strategic advisors. The Strategic Scientific Committee is co-chaired by the FLINT’s Director.
